Brown: Better rehabilitation will cut crime

5.39.38pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 20th Jul 2010

Commenting on Kenny MacAskill’s visit to HMP Shotts and update on the progress of redeveloping the prison, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesman Robert Brown said:

“Any prison improvements that increase the amount of meaningful rehabilitation for prisoners are to be welcomed.

“Reforming criminals and offering them a path back to a fulfilling role in society is the best way of cutting crime and making towns and cities safer for everyone.

“Prisoners must be offered activities that teach them the value of hard work and positive effort.”
